Project 2013: First Squad Completed...

For those brave souls following my progress on the 2013 project. Here is my first completed squad of Khurasan's Exterminators in Environmental Exo-suits.

I want to do a little more touch up and add more effect to the shoulder light and the light flare on the visor but I don't know what to do or how to do it!?

If anyone out there got some simple tips they don't mind sharing, feel free to leave the comment below.

  1. The look sharp enough to me.

  2. You might try the ruble in a brown or reddish brown, just to make the suits pop a little more. I'd mix some 50%ink/50% water to test washing the ruble on a figure. Or pick out a few rocks in different colors and the then do a light dry brush of white. Or both.

They look really sharp as they are, if you didn't change a thing, you got a winning combination.

  3. Nice. One thing I would consider doing to finish them off is painting just the visor with a gloss varnish, to give it that glassy look. The combo of matt and gloss on a model is a simple & effective way to give the illusion that there's more detail than there really is.

  4. Looking great. The dark green and the black helmet with the white marks look excellent. If I was being critical I would suggest that you try and find a finer grade of sand for the base because the larger gravel looks a bit big to me. Hamster sand is dust free, really cheap from pet shops and very fine (perfect for 15mm). Cheers Robin

  5. Thanks for the feedback all. So from the sounds of it, a little bit of clear gloss finish on the visors, a little more work on the bases. ie some more color and some finer grade sand. And a matt finish.

So, yeah, that's what I will do when I get back from work in a few weeks. (I travel away from home for 3 weeks for work)

One question I will throw back out to everyone, other then sand, would that pummice stuff be a better choice to use?

Also, thanks to Robin, I have been watching your tutorials for the last year or more. The tip with painting the white dots on certian points on the figures has been nothing but golden! Thanks for the feedback.
